- History Journal wins 3rd prize
The Alpha Delta Nu chapter at CSUSB was awarded third prize in the 2009 Gerald D. Nash History Journal Award for their journal History in the Making. The chapter was selected from among 870 chapters for its commitment to a high standard of quality. The faculty advisor to the chapter is Dr. Cherstin Lyon. Please view the current issue of History Journal to acknowledge their hard work. - Catholic Charities Fellowship Program Established at Cal State San Bernardino. A three-year partnership to help train graduate and undergraduate social work students at Cal State San Bernardino through the region's nonprofit organizations has been established between the university's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Catholic Charities San Bernardino/Riverside. Ken Sawa, Catholic Charities' CEO and executive vice president, on Oct. 7 presented the first of three installments to fund the Catholic Charities Fellowship Program for more than $36,000 to Jamal Nassar, dean of the college; Laurie Smith, director of the School of Social Work; and Enrique Gonzalez-Salgado, director of development.View the detailed information about the Catholic Charities Fellowship Program

- In recognition of “Geography Awareness Week” (November 15-21) the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is sponsoring a series of lectures. On November 18, Drs. James Mulvihill and Bo XU spoke on "China: The New Middle Kingdom.“ In winter, Dr. Rajrani Kalra will talk on a general interest topic related to India. In spring, Dr. Bo Xu will give an additional talk on China.

- Department of Geography/Environmental Studies hosted speaker series to inaugurate Geography's Global Studies Option
The topic for the Fall 2009 series was " China: The New Middle Kingdom" and speakers were Dr. Jim Mulvihill and Dr. Bo Xu. - College Hosted Panel Discussion on Book Publishing
On Wednesday November 18th, Drs. Jamal Nassar (Dean of CSBS), Kenneth Shultz (Psychology), Larry Gaines (Criminal Justice) and Frances Berdan (Anthropology) conducted a panel discussion entitled “Getting a Book Published: A Discussion.” Selected by the institute for Child Development and Family Relations, the panel members are considered among the most successful faculty in the CSBS in publishing books. View additional information about the panel discussion. - Maria Machuca was a guest speaker in the Sociology 342 (Chicano Family) class that meets in SBS 129. Ms. Machuca gave a talk about her schooling experience as a small child growing up in Mecca, CA., which is a small agricultural community in the Coachella Valley (Southern California), and her experiences at CSUSB as well. She also discussed the work she does with the "Mecca Family & Farm worker's Service" Center which services over 2000 individuals every month. View Maria Machuca's Bio.
- Anthropology Museum and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences was Home to Rare Maps from the 16th and 17th Centuries. The view of the world from the eyes of 16th and 17th century Ottoman cartographers came to Cal State San Bernardino Oct. 19-31, when the university hosted an exhibition of rare maps and other collections in the anthropology museum in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building on campus. The Katip Celebi Ottoman Map and Cultural Exhibition was presented by the Civilization Studies Center at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, the Alliance of Civilizations from the Republic of Turkey and Cal State San Bernardino's Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. - College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Partnered with California JumpStart in Sponsoring Financial Fair for Parents and Teens. Teens and their parents were invited to attend an all-day financial education fair on college funding, budgeting, investing and more on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Cal State San Bernardino. The fair also included contests, prizes and a special guest appearance from world renowned youth speaker Josh Shipp. View detailed information about the financial fair
