Active Directory
Welcome to the Modern age of computing! Active Directory (AD) is the new system the college of Social and Behavioral sciences will be connected to. It has a wide range of advantages some of which are:
1) Increased productivity - This allows you to logon on to any computer in the college (lab, classroom, and office) with a single user name and password securely. This will connect you to the server where your data is stored and you can access your files from any computer without the need for disks! So to show a power point to a class simply save it to your "H" drive (explained in our working document) logon to a classroom computer and your H drive appears with you data!
2) Windows update service - Allows IT to automatically update your computer preventing viruses, spyware and software glitches.
3) Less down time, and faster service - with our Remote assistance when you call for support we can immediately with your authorization connect to your PC and work on it on the fly instantly! This also reduces the burden on IT.
4) Improving fault tolerance - your network drive will be backed up daily and weekly and lies on a special server that is triple redundant.
5) enhanced security - with IT ability to patch all computers at once via script or GPO this greatly increases security.
6) resource sharing - Departments now will have departmental shares that allows them to exchange data quickly!
There is a large number of advantages to AD, for more detail please refer to our Operating Document located here:
Please note, this document is a working copy in flux and is subject to change, however it does contain more detail about AD and our services.
