Program Description:

The M.A. in Education with an option in career and technical education is designed to provide advanced and specialized education to personnel working in a variety of settings related to vocational education such as secondary, postsecondary, and private schools. The program should also meet the requirements for leadership positions in these facilities. The emphasis area courses offer the opportunity to focus on a particular area of personal interest. Up to 16 units of graduate-level courses from other programs (either at CSUSB or any accredited university) may be used as electives or, in some instances, substituted for program courses. The result is that we can custom design a program of study to meet almost anyone’s needs.

Application Details:

Applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Prior to being admitted to the Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education Program in the College of Education, applicants must be admitted to the university as an unclassified graduate student. Application for admission to the university should be made at least three months prior to the date the applicant would like to begin taking courses.

Criminal Justice Program

Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice is designed to serve the growing number of individuals who wish to further their education in the criminal justice system. Designed to serve students from a range of educational backgrounds, the program is open to students with bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice as well as those with degrees in related fields: psychology, administration, anthropology, sociology, or social sciences, for example. All of our required courses are offered online to accommodate various student schedules, making the program ideal for working students; several of our elective courses may also be held in the classroom.

Application Details:

The Criminal Justice Graduate Admissions Committee cannot assess applications until they have been reviewed by the Office of Graduate Admissions, have met university admissions requirements, and all letters of recommendation have been received. Applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis and enrollment is limited.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university

2. A minimum undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 overall and 3.0 ('B') in the major

  • If an applicant’s overall and major GPA are below the required 3.0 threshold, submission of available GRE scores will be required for consideration for admission. 

3. Admission to classified status requires the completion of the following prerequisite courses or their equivalents, completed with a grade of B- or better:

  • CJUS 311 (3311), undergraduate Research Methods in Criminal Justice/Criminology
  • CJUS 312 (3312), undergraduate Statistics in Social Sciences
  • CJUS 598 (5598), Integrative Studies in Criminal Justice/Criminology 
    • Applicants who have not completed the above prerequisites may still be admitted with “conditionally classified” status but will be required to take the above-listed courses within their first academic year in the M.A. Program.

4. A brief statement of purpose (one to two double-spaced typewritten pages) describing the applicant’s preparation for graduate study and professional goals.

5. Three letters of recommendation from educators who are familiar with the student's academic work and potential to complete the program successfully. Letters must come directly from the writer.

 MPA Program

Program Description:

The Master of Public Administration program at CSUSB is proud to be nationally accredited by NASPAA, the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration. The MPA is designed to prepare students for a career in administration in the public sector. The major objective is to provide the student with a generalist perspective of public administration systems and a capacity for excelling in management and executive positions. This degree is intended for graduate students and career employees seeking to devel­op and strengthen academic and professional skills for admission and advancement in the professional practice of public administration.

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • A grade point average of 3.0 or above for the last 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of course work including post-baccalaureate courses. Students with a GPA of 2.75-2.99 may be admitted after reviewing scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • Public Service employment experience. Students without public service employment experience must complete an internship before being advanced to candidacy.
  • Academic motivation and personal qualifications demonstrated through submission of a 500-word statement of purpose for pursuing the MPA at California State University, San Bernardino. 

Our First Year Orientation program is an overnight, two-day experience on campus. You’ll spend the night in Coyote Village, along with the other students in your pack. Regardless if you are commuting or living on campus in the fall, you’ll have the opportunity to experience life on campus. 

The two-day program is designed to help you make connections with other new students, familiarize yourself with campus and its resources, and provide information to prepare you to be a Coyote. 

As you are staying overnight as part of your program, you'll want to be sure to bring the following:

  • Change of clothes for staying overnight in campus housing (dress casual and comfortable) and comfortable shoes for walking around campus
  • A backpack or bag to carry orientation materials
  • Pillow, sleeping bag or bed sheets (extra long twin) and blanket
  • Toiletries and towel
  • Any medication you might need for two days

Criminal Justice Spanish

Program Description:

The Certificate in Criminal Justice Spanish is a specialized Spanish language program that prepares students to successfully interact with members of the Latino community as they gain oral and written competency in professional Spanish and an understanding of Latino cultures. The certificate is designed for college graduates who majored in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, or related disciplines in Public Safety and Human services, and now must be able to communicate effectively with Spanish‑speaking communities. The online program is taught fully in Spanish and focuses on specialized terminology as well as cross-dialectal and cross-cultural variation within Latin American and US Spanish. The Certificate Program will prepare students to engage in culturally appropriate communication and interaction in their professional settings.

With this Certificate, and a degree in Criminal Justice, students can pursue any number of traditional law enforcement jobs and will be better prepared for career opportunities in US Customs and Border Protection, FBI, DEA, TSA, as well as in any California state and local authorities.

Materials Science

Program Description:

The interdisciplinary Master of Science in Materials Science program is offered jointly by the Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry and Physics & Astronomy. The program is partnered with our Center for Advanced Functional Materials, and employs state-of-the-art scientific equipment across both participating departments as well as the College of Natural Sciences. 

Students can choose from two concentrations in the program that share a common core of coursework in the fundamental science of material structure and reactivity and includes practical experience. Our Interdisciplinary Materials Investigation Concentration culminates in laboratory research on a problem in materials science, with a written thesis and oral defense. Our unique Entrepreneurial Concentration culminates in Entrepreneurial coursework (In collaboration with the School of Entrepreneurship at CSUSB), as well as a final project in conjunction with a community partner or employer. Students with undergraduate majors in physics, chemistry, or materials science will be well prepared to enter the program, and other STEM majors may be admitted with additional undergraduate coursework in physics or chemistry required.

Application Details: 

Specific requirements to be considered for admission to the program are: 

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Completion of an undergraduate major in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related majors. Additional undergraduate coursework may be required for related majors. 
  • A cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.5 overall and in all courses used for credit in the major (3.0 recommended). 
  • Submission of scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) to Graduate Admissions is optional and may provide evidence of mastery of quantitative skills in the absence of a high GPA. 

Students are accepted by the Program Graduate Committee as classified students for admission for the Fall semester. Spring admissions may be considered under compelling circumstances. In some cases, students who do not meet these criteria may be conditionally admitted to the program. Please consult the Graduate Coordinator for more information. 

Great question! Depending on which program you are attending, we have some different recommendations on what to bring to ensure a smooth and successful time at Orientation and on campus!

Students and parents & families who are registered to attend an Orientation session will receive a complimentary parking permit provided by Orientation and First Year Experience. This will be your valid parking permit ONLY during your attendance at orientation.

  • Parking permits are only valid for the parking lot assigned during the Orientation program. See below for designated parking lots by orientation program type.
  • Parking permits must be printed and clearly displayed on the front dashboard of the vehicle.
  • Parking permits will be e-mailed to attending students to their CSUSB email account two (2) days prior to their Orientation. 
  • Vehicles must be parked forward-facing in diagonal parking spaces on campus. Vehicles parked backwards in diagonal spaces may be issued a citation.

It is the student's and parents/family responsibility to have their parking permit and have it clearly displayed in their vehicles. Failure to park in the designated parking lot  and/or properly displaying the permit will result in a $54 parking citation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Office of Student Research (OSR) Social Media Marketing Intern will help grow and manage our multiple online platforms. This position will play a huge role in maintaining and growing our office's online presence. The ideal person for this role has knowledge of video creating & editing, online marketing, and social media management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Update and Manage social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
  • Creating and analyzing any promotional campaigns
  • Ability to work collaboratively and bring relevant ideas to that encourage office growth
  • Maintain an active presence on our online platforms, with new content that is online with our office's culture
  • Increase interaction and following of our pages
  • Daily updates on social media platforms with current pictures, vlog's and any relevant content
  • Utilize marketing techniques to increase online traffic, department awareness

ORGANIZATION NAME: CSUSB Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (IEC)

INTERNSHIP TITLE: IEC Marketing Specialist Intern

JOB SUMMARY: This position will report to the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (IEC), within the Human Resources Division. The IEC is responsible for ensuring compliance with the CSU Nondiscrimination Policy, which prohibits Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Exploitation, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Stalking, and Retaliation.  The IEC also develops and disseminates educational materials, publications and in-service training designed for faculty, staff and students relating to the CSU Nondiscrimination Policy. The primary purpose of the job is to assist the IEC in developing marketing and communication of programing related to prevention, education, and outreach through various social media platforms and/or on campus marketing platforms. The Student Intern will receive general directions from the Prevention, Outreach, and Education Manager or Associate Director/Executive Director.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

  • Help identify key marketing audiences for the campus community, which may require marketing research.
  • Research  uniquely recognizable slogans and/or logos for IEC.
  • Assist in the development of enhancing the existing web site to engage audiences and develop effective communication for the campus community for IEC.
  • Assist in developing social media presence.
  • Develop marketing materials in multiple media platforms.
  • May be responsible for the organizing and tracking of traffic data on social media and prepare metrics on return of investment for any marketing campaign/posting.
  • Will work with and under the supervision of the Prevention, Outreach, and Education Manager or Associate Director/Executive Director.
  • May on occasion serve as a point of contact for the two IEC reception areas.
  • Maintain files (creating, updating and organizing).
  • Assist with clerical functions for the IEC (i.e. file paperwork, maintain an organized working environment, make deliveries around campus, etc.).
  • May assist with IEC programming, outreach, and other events.
  • Student Interns will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current Administration student, Marketing Concentration, or MBA - Marketing student. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information developed through the internship
